We thought we had our travel plans in order for our car
trip from Sydney to Adelaide, stopping in Melbourne to fly down to Tasmania for
a few days en route, but the gremlins were out there working against us!!! They sure do get around these gremlins!!! The
agency we have been working with was unable to put it together for us.
We went to the Agency three times today ….and this was
after having been there two separate times on previous days. The first time
they had not checked the information they said they would check first thing on
Monday morning, and then the young assistant was put on hold…holding….holding….for
ever! So we said we would go for a walk and come back. We had no intention of
doing a long walk but we just got walking and talking, and walking and talking
and then discovered ourselves in a totally different area. We had walked all
the way along the Tarbin Creek trail and ended up in Gladesville. We stopped
for a coffee and a piece of banana bread and then decided to walk home. We didn’t
know the way, so had to ask the young woman in the coffee shop. She was so
shocked we were walking she couldn’t really give us directions. So one of the
patrons stepped in and immediately offered to help, but when he learned we were
walking he too was stunned! Anyway, he walked a block with us and put us on the
right road in the right direction and off we went. It really wasn’t a bad walk
at all, only about half an hour, a lot shorter than the way we had come!!
When we went back to the travel agency again, the assistant hadn’t been able to make contact with the camper van rental company, so again we left her to “put it all together” as she said. And we went off to eat lunch.
The third time we arrived back she told us it was not possible to get a camper van but she could book a car. She told us there had been a big show this weekend and everything was booked! Why the chap we spoke to on Saturday didn’t point out that likelihood to us is beyond my understanding. The young woman printed out the “quote” she had put together for us, and we went back to the house to check the Internet to see if we could source something. We noticed that her quote included a flight which was twice the price of the original flight the young man had quoted us on Saturday morning. So, at that point, we were a little disappointed with what was going on and we decided to book it all ourselves….it really wasn’t that complicated….but it takes time on the Internet just checking things out. We managed to sort out part of the trip but not all. And this took up most of the day!
