We were up bright and early today in expectation of meeting up
with our friends Robin and Peter. We called up Jero and arranged for a taxi
over to the Amandari to meet them for lunch. What a wonderful treat! The
Amandari is the most beautiful hotel you can imagine. Set on the top of a ridge overlooking the Ayung River Valley, and replicating the design of a Balinese village, the Amandari personifies the most exquisite culture of the Balinese. The suites with private infinity pools and separate living areas overlooked the valley. We had a beautiful lunch served by impeccable staff dressed in the traditional Balinese sarong and udheng.
We called our driver and he came and picked us up and delivered us
back to the lanes of Penestanan. We introduced Robin and Peter to our house and
they took a few moments to unpack then we dragged them out to the supermarket,
through the little lanes on the opposite side of the road. They were as amused
by them as we were. We got some ingredients for dinner and headed back. We sat
quietly and had a beer and Robin and Peter had a brief swim. Ray BBQ some
chicken which took forever but which tasted really good when it was finally
done. By this time Robin and Peter were almost asleep and went off to bed.
It is really fun to see your friends in different places and it is
just amazing to have them here. This is their 6th visit. The last
was 10 years ago, so we feel pretty special to be part of their 10th
year anniversary of their last visit here.
