Thursday, April 14 - Campuhan Ridge

We had a lovely walk today on the Campuhan Ridge - a narrow path that climbed up onto the ridge and took us through beautiful lush vegetation, rice paddies, and into a small village. We had lunch in a small restaurant there - built up on stilts so we were two stories up in an outdoor cafe overlooking the rice fields. It was truly beautiful and relaxing.]

Late afternoon I went down to the clothes washer (in a separate little building) and found all the soap powder used up and a bunch of small curtain hooks lying in the bottom of the washer. So, I don't know who has been using the washer - but of course that uses hydro....and the soap powder....and from Geoffrey's point of view, the hooks could have got caught in the motor and that would have ruined the machine!!! So....I guess it is a little like Africa!! I shall mention it to Geoffrey though as he should know what goes on when he is not here!!

Tonight we had a nice walk through the narrow Penestanan Lanes in the dark with our half-light torches which badly need new batteries, to a small restaurant, Warung Made, and I had fried noodles mixed with vegetables which was delicious. Ray had rice and chicken and  he enjoyed that too.

Now I am writing my blog listening to the sound of the lizards and the geckos. Earlier today I saw three little frogs about 2 cm long by the front door – they were so tiny they looked smaller than a house fly. Just now, as I am writing, a little frog the size of a teaspoon just hopped past! I also noticed one in the bathroom earlier. When I lived in Africa as a child, we didn’t have quite the wildlife indoors we have here…..well….in the later days….the house was pretty well mosquito proofed all around. For example, the deck that we sat outside on had mosquite proof all around, and the narrow deck along the back of the house was also proofed. All windows had mosquito proofing just like our houses in Canada have in the summer as did the back door. Our beds also had mosquito nets. Here, the houses are wide open and so all kinds of little creatures come in. So far they are all quite sweet and we can live with them comfortably…. Our beds have mosquito nets but that is about all. We have heard of a number of people getting dengue fever, which is quite nasty….so we are being really conscious of using bug spray.

So, I am off to sleep. Night night!!
