Today was all about getting ourselves out of the
rental flat, down to Easistore in Crawley to put our bag of English clothes in
a storage locker, returning the rental car to the airport, and flying to
Dubrovnik.
We flew Easy Jet from Gatwick. This budget airline
was quite organized but we had about a 45 minute delay on the runway due to a
baggage handler’s strike the day before at Gatwick. Nice enough plane and good
leg space. About a 2 ½ hour journey. The exciting part for me was flying over the
Alps. It was so different than flying over the Rockies! Many of the mountains seemed
to have craters at the top filled with snow. It was quite amazing. I tried to get
a picture, but its not very good.
We had arranged for a transfer from the airport to
the hotel and as it was now quite dark, and it was now after 10:00 p.m. we were
relieved to see a sign held up for “Elizabeth and Raymond Gillis!” Then it was a
swift 20 minute drive from the airport to the Hostel Sol.
We are right on the water overlooking the Port of Dubrovnik.
The hostel is amazing. Brand new, very clean, everything works, and it is all very
modern.
We settled into our room, investigated the lounge area,
and sipped our first Croatian beer. Wouldn’t you believe it that the first couple
we spoke to were Canadians from Charlottetown, PEI, who were actually staying in
Bosnia and Herzegovina, but had driven down for the day and an overnight!!
