Visit to My Cousin in Wimbledon

Thursday May 17, 2018
It was another beautifully warm and sunny day, and sadly, we had to say “goodbye” to Katie. It was hard to do that. We had a great time together, and had, I think, many things in common….and many memories to chuckle over from our years together in Britain.  We saw her on to her train back to Waterloo where she would make her way towards Kings Cross and the train back to Edinburgh. Four and half hours! Not bad! She emailed to say she arrived safely.

About an hour later, we ourselves got on a train to Wimbledon to visit my cousin Ian. We really like this train availability. It gets kind of scary standing on the platform when the high speed electric trains whiz through the station at 120 k per hour to other destinations, but there are four trains per hour from here up to London, Waterloo. One of these trains is an “express”, and one is the slow train which has many stops. That was the one we caught to Wimbledon. It may be have been 20 minutes. Super fast, quiet.

We made our way to Ian’s flat, about a 5 minute walk from the train station. My cousin is a history buff, and he must have had a thousand history books in his flat. It was so interesting browsing over them. Of course I wanted to read them all, but…….not the right time!! We walked from the flat up through all the shops to the Wimbledon Common. Crossed the Common and ended up in a little pub called “Hand in Hand”. We had a lovely simple lunch, and then had a private tour (courtesy of my cousin) back through all the famous homes in Wimbledon, the Common, and back to Ian’s for desert and tea before we left to catch the train back to West Byfleet.

Seriously!!! Simulator riding lessons!!!
