Almost 2
billion people watching the wedding!! Phenomenal! And what a wedding. We had
not really “planned” to watch it on the telly, but since we had downtime, we did!!
And really, how could we be in England and not!! And it truly made a statement to the world. Apart
from the couple themselves, it was Bishop Michael Curry’s speech that captured
the show. It was humourous, animated, and emphasised the “power of love!” How
right he is: as he said “imagine a world where love is the way.” People are
already saying this wedding will change the world. The other treat was Sheku
Kanneh-Mason, the young British cellist who played when the royal couple were
signing the register and gave a passionate, and tender rendering of Ave Marie, and
two other pieces. And all the choirs and singers were beautiful, the 10 little bridesmaids
and pageboys, and the beautiful location and floral arrangements of St. George’s
Chapel chapel at Windsor Castle. And….lets not forget the stunning black and white
horses that led Harry and Meghan from the chapel after the wedding, through the
streets of Windsor, to the Queen’s private quarters at the Castle.
When we had dried our
tears after the wedding, we did a bit of shopping, then headed out for
Wokingham. Annabelle and Seb came out to dinner with us at Zizzi's on Broad
Street in Wokingham. Wokingham is a pretty and historic market town that has been
around since the 1200s. The history that is part of every day life here in England
is fascinating….and it is all so different from Canada. I had forgotten just how
much. Our story is we ate a big plate of vegetables and only had an apple for
desert!! It was a lovely evening, and we got back to the rental flat just as
the darkness was settling in for the night.
We sure have lucked
out with the weather here in Jersey and England. It has been quite warm and
sunny almost every day!
